If you are 64 years of age or younger, you may submit an application for Medicare coverage from CDPHP at any time within three months leading up to your 65th birthday. Once approved, your policy will take effect during the month of your 65th birthday. You can also apply up to three months after.

AEP Enrollment

If you are already 65 years of age and hadn't applied within the three months after your 65th birthday, you can only apply for Medicare during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) between October 15 and December 7. Once approved, your policy will take effect on January 1 of the following calendar year.

If you donʼt apply within that seven-month window, you are able to apply during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) between October 15 and December 7, and your policy would go into effect on January 1 of the following year.

Once approved, your policy will take effect on January 1 of the following calendar year.

There is a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that would allow you to apply outside of the AEP under certain circumstances, such as change of residence (moving into a new service area), loss of group health coverage, qualification for Low Income Subsidy or Medicaid, Retroactive Notice of Medicare Entitlement, plus other special conditions as defined by CMS, including disabled individuals under age 65 who are eligible for Medicare benefits.
